In 1975, along the Valley of Lumbini, Dayapala Jayawardana planted his first tea field. His vision was to create a great tasting tea that reflects the true character of the tea leaves and the land. Today, his son Chaminda Jayawardana, and his DALU team live and breathe this vision by producing teas that showcase how each variety expresses itself when sharpened by the soil and sun of Ceylon.
We use our expertise in the fine art of black tea making to produce this artisanal tea from our tea garden in Lumbini Valley, situated just below the World Heritage Site of the Sinharaja Forest Reserve in southern Sri Lanka.
The oxygen-rich rainforest winds flowing from Sinharaja, along with the sea breeze from the southern coast, create a miraculous combination of winds to induce a unique flavor and aromatic medium bodied tea which leaves a natural sweetness in the mouth. Master Tea Tasters commonly refer to this unique flavor as ‘rainforest floral honey flavor’. We offer this distinct flavor for tea lovers around the world through our brand DALU.
